What moves the window price
- Count and size. Four lites across a 9-foot single is the base case. Eight lites across a 16-footer roughly doubles the glass and framing.
- Glass versus acrylic. Entry-level "glass" is often clear acrylic, cheap and hail-tolerant but prone to yellowing after a decade of Oklahoma UV. True glass costs more and stays clear.
- Single versus insulated panes. On an insulated door, single-pane windows are thermal holes. Double-pane insulated lites add a little per row but keep the door's R-value story honest.
- Privacy and decorative options. Frosted, seeded or tinted glass and snap-in grille designs step the quote up a tier. Wrought-iron-look inserts for Spanish and Tuscan elevations are the priciest of the decorative choices.
- Placement. Standard placement is the top section, which costs nothing extra. Windows in lower sections cost more and we generally talk customers out of them for security and impact reasons.
The Oklahoma-specific considerations
Two local realities should shape the choice. First, hail: glass in the top section of a 7-foot door sits at a steep angle to falling hail and survives storms far better than people fear, but if your neighborhood took glass damage in a recent storm cycle, polycarbonate lites offer near-glass clarity with dramatically better impact resistance for a small premium. Second, orientation: on west-facing doors in treeless additions around Yukon, Mustang and southwest OKC, clear glass turns the garage into an afternoon greenhouse. Frosted or tinted lites cut that solar gain while keeping the daylight, which is the reason most buyers wanted windows in the first place.
Natural light is genuinely valuable in a garage that doubles as a shop or gym; it can eliminate daytime lighting entirely. And from the curb, a window row is the least expensive design upgrade a door offers, changing the whole elevation for a fraction of the cost of a designer door. That said, on a rental or a rarely seen side-load door, plain panels save money nobody will miss.

Windows are a factory option, not a retrofit you should bolt in later; field-cut windows void panel warranties and invite leaks. So decide at order time, look at the style boards, and match the grille pattern to your house windows rather than to the catalog default.
