Pricing by gate type
| Setup | Relative cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single swing arm, existing gate | Most affordable | The acreage classic on driveways from Newcastle to Jones |
| Dual swing (two leaves) | Moderate | Two operators synced; the estate look |
| Slide gate operator | Higher | Best where wind or slope fights a swing gate; needs track or cantilever hardware |
| Heavy commercial slide | Highest, heavy-duty | Yards, shops and storage lots; higher duty cycles |
The operator hardware is only part of the invoice. Site work is the wildcard: running 110V power to a gate 300 feet from the house means trenching that can cost as much as the opener, which is why add-on solar packages are so popular on rural properties around Blanchard, Tuttle and Harrah. Oklahoma sun keeps a properly sized solar panel and battery ahead of demand for typical family duty cycles.
Options that earn their cost here
- Battery backup. Ice storms take out rural power lines regularly, and a gate with no backup becomes a wall. Batteries buy dozens of cycles during an outage.
- Wind-rated arms and posts. A 16-foot ornamental iron leaf is a sail in a 50 mph south wind. Undersized operators strip gears fighting gusts; sizing for Oklahoma wind, not catalog conditions, is the difference between a 3-year and a 15-year install.
- Access controls. Keypads, vehicle exit sensors, and telephone/app entry systems each add to the total, with app-based systems at the top. Ranch-style properties usually want keypad plus auto-exit.
- Safety loops and photo eyes. Required thinking, not an option, anywhere kids or customers cross the gate line. UL 325 compliance protects people and liability alike.
Why gate work is its own trade
Gate operators combine welding-adjacent hardware, low-voltage electronics, concrete, and safety standards, which is why handyman installs fail at such a high rate out here: posts heave in expansive clay because they were set too shallow, operators die because they were sized to gate length instead of weight and wind. Our gate opener team installs, services and repairs swing and slide systems across the metro and the acreage communities around it, with the same free estimates and 24/7 coverage as our garage door side. If you are gating a business yard, pair the quote with our commercial door services for one visit, and financing is available on larger projects. Call (405) 247-0336 with your gate's length and material and we can rough a number on the phone.
